In a more descriptive way research means an intensive and powerful search for knowledge and understanding of social and physical phenomena. In social science, research is a scientific method of exploring, analyzing and conceptualizing social life in order to extend, correct or verify knowledge. The Webster’s Dictionary meaning of research “ a careful critical inquiry or explanation in seeking facts and principles; diligent investigation in order to ascertain something”. Similarly, the Advance learner’s Dictionary meaning of research “a careful investigation or inquiry especially through search for new facts in any branch of knowledge”.   Basic Assumption of social work According to Hamilton(), the assumptions of social case work are: §   Individual and society are interdependent and complementary to each other. §   Various factors operative in the society influence human behavior and attitude. §   Some problems are physiological and some are interpersonal in nature §   In the process of social case work conscious and controlled relations are established for achieving its aims. §   Social case work enables an individual to solve his/her problems by channelizing his/her energy and capacity positively. §   Social case work provides everyone equal right to progress. The social case worker is oriented towards the principle of social justice. Social justice provides everyone equal right to prowess. Therefore, social case work does not believe on the survival of the fittest. In other words, social case work is based on the assumption of human welfare. It provides help to every needy and disabled person. Its ultimate aim is to establish harmonious relationship between the client and the society to which he belongs. Thus in the social case work individual client is treated as a total unit. Internal and external forces are motivated in such a manner so that he may solve his problems. Social case work covers the individual aspect of assistance as such; the method adopted in it is purely psychological. But side by, social worker has also to understand the various aspects of human behavior.
